design – pantone’s fall 2010 palatte

July 7, 2010

My career as a designer has been spent eating, breathing and sleeping PANTONE. I can still remember when I started out in the industry, I thought it was weird that designers were always talking about PMS (pantone matching system). I thought it was awfully inappropriate conversation for the workplace. So I am always excited to see what pantone calls out for the home and fashion color trends. I am really loving several of these colors for this fall. In case you were curious what the color of year for 2010 is….its turquoise.

I am so excited to showcase this invitation project because it was our first order from a client out of state who found us on Style Me Pretty. We were able to successfully and smoothly communicate through email with an inspiration board that Eilzabeth put together. Elizabeth works for Google in Chicago and had her fabulous kelly green and black celebration in a beautiful church in California with a reception following at Mountain Winery in Saratoga.

marketing – the wedding party studio

June 30, 2010

I absolutely love The Wedding Party Studio. “They are one of my fav clients.” They communicated early in their branding process that they want to achieve an Anthropologie-feel with a modern edge. So each time I am presented with a project, I filter it through just that. A few recent projects include a button design for the studio vendors to include on their websites or blogs to show their elite affiliation with TWPS. The studio also wanted to provide brides with a VIB {very important bride} card that they can use with participating vendors who offer discounts, incentives or gifts with purchase. And for an ad in the next Texas Wedding Guide, we created an simple, but eye catching design. Our goal was create something that the bride would take a second look at, intrigued in way. TWPS is truly a library, free to the bride, where she can research the best of the best vendors in Dallas. Definitely “check it out”.

PAGES magazine

Summer 2010

The Wedding Party Studio quarterly publishes a mini-mag called PAGES that profiles weddings and vendors that are part of the exclusive studio. This last issue gave us invitationers the opportunity to each design a piece of a wedding ensemble using Navy and Fuschia – I am loving this palette! Waxpaper was chosen to design the menu – I think the group turned out fab. I am also a contributing writer to their Do’s and Don’ts section. I try to keep them witty, but believe it or not I am running out of good material. Anyone out there have some good suggestions?

design inspiration – new york stationery show

May 14, 2010

.

I leave today for New York…did I mention I love what I do. This is my favorite time of the year! Some might find it boring to walk the halls of the Javits Center looking at cards, paper and notebooks….i say it is close to heaven. I get weak in the knees. I will spend a couple of days walking the stationery show and then will hit the International Contemporary Furniture Fair as well next door. This is where I get inspired…color, pattern, ideas galore. Hopefully I can sneak some pics and bring the show to those that wouldn’t find it boring! I will also be looking for manufacturers to partner with. I “heart” NY!

living the dream: a day in the life

May 13, 2010
.
Some have wondered what I do all day (like if I work in my pajamas). Well, its different every day and I LOVE that. Last Wednesday was no exception. I spent most of the day running to printers and to UPS. I was suppose to meet my friend Robin at 3 to sit at the State and Allen patio uptown, have a glass of wine, and watch the Fox TV filming of the new show The Good Guys with Collin Hanks (Tom Hank’s son) down the street. It is a new series that takes place in Dallas about 2 Dallas cops. See, Robin owns The Wedding Party Studio – where Waxpaper is one of their preferred invitation vendors and where we meet all our clients. It is a resource library AND retail boutique. Fox contacted her a few weeks ago claiming they had searched high and low for the perfect place to shoot a scene involving a jewelry store and her store was what they were looking for. Oddly enough, it isn’t even a jewelry store. She closed down for 3 days as they came in and transformed the place and the scene was shot last Wednesday.

I was heading down there a little early to meet a bride to exchange a proof when Robin called. She asked if I could come early because Collin wanted to buy some things at her shop. She needed a camera and I happen to have one in my purse! So we hung out at State and Allen until we got the call from the producer to come down to the shop because they were wrapping and Collin wanted to check out. He was super nice and super laid back. Very TALL! We finished the day attending a wedding industry Cinco de Mayo happy hour at the Aloft Hotel downtown. The fajitas were to die for! So, there is a day in the life of someone living the dream.
